A time lapse camera was mounted 30 metres (about 100ft) above a tugboat, which then travelled from Rotterdam  to Amsterdam through the canal system. Take a virtual tour Cool video A very different perspective, time lapse 4K quality, this video was shot in 2013.

There are many 'thrift shops' and secondhand stores in Nl.  Some are run by charities, others are privately owned. The Dutch (and wepeople) are very frugal and we also like to recycle, restore, repurpose and reuse old items.  We are very 'RE'.  MvdH found this today. We have an outside tap and a drain outside the kitchen door and I have been looking for a sink to mount there. It will be very handy, for handwashing,  gardening, rinsing dishes, etc....may mount the old  pitcher hand water pump on it. MB mounting sink outside kitchen door. Note the water pistol on the left.......to 'discourage' neighbour's domestic cats from killing birds in our hedges, bushes and feeders.

https://youtu.be/GsQQ8Ujbua4 How to prevent 'rat running' Renting a public bicycle at a train station, using your transport pass You can take your own bike on the train, but it may be easier and more efficient to rent one in city areas. The Netherlands is fast becoming a cashless society and you need, at least, a smartphone, a debit card and a prepaid transport card Credit cards are rarely seen or used and the whole country is set up to use your bank debit card for all transactions, except transport, for which you use a special prepaid transport card.  Inspectors check passenger's cards during journey

De Oude Ijsselstreek This little video was shot in our area and the commentary is in Dutch. De Oude Ijsselstreek is our area within the province of Gelderland that is known as the 'Achterhoek' or 'back corner ' of the Netherlands. It lies along the 'Old Ijssel' river that flows from Germany. It is mainly rural, agricultural, dairy, chicken and pig and horse farms.  There are very few golf courses in Nl, but the fields all look like a green carpet.  Quite a few old castles in the area.  The local crops are hay, corn, potatoes and grains.   The farmers are busy from dawn to after dusk tending their small fields. The main traffic past our place is tractors and agricultural equipment. The area is being promoted as a quiet nature getaway area from the large cities in the west of NL,  Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague, etc and there are beautiful well maintained rural cycle paths and weekend events that attract visitors Light industry is concentrated in industrial are
