This is how it was.........'Alcheringa'

Image
Hit the full screen button,  bottom right on video. A videographer shot this for the realtor, the house and drone shots...when we decided to sell. A few months after we sold, hurricane Dorian, on 01 September, 2019 hit this area and stayed for 3 days with winds and tornadoes over 225 kph and a sea surge of over 20 ft.  Here you can see where a tornado spawned off and hit 5 houses, ours and 4 others up the hill away from the sea. The area will take a long time to recover.  There has been very little infrastructure repair and still no electricity or water in this area. Many have decided not to return and rebuild.

Now take a little balloon ride....

It was shot 8 years ago..... To go full-screen click on little square box bottom right of video pic. The Netherlands is still green.

Lets take a little drone trip along the 'Old Ijssel' river...

The 'Old Ijssel' river is a tributary of the Rhine river and  runs out of Germany from the east to the west, finally joining the 'Ijssel  river and running to the North of the Netherlands. The  Oude IJssel  ( Dutch ,  pronounced  [ˌʌudə ˈʔɛisəl] , literally  old IJssel ) or  Issel  ( German ,  pronounced  [ˈɪsəl] ) is a  river  in  Germany  and the  Netherlands  approximately 82 km (51 mi) long. It is a right tributary of the river  IJssel .  Oude IJssel  is Dutch for "Old IJssel"; the Oude IJssel was the upper course of the IJssel until the connection with the  Rhine  was dug, possibly in the  Roman era . Dem pesky 'American Crawfish'...... have invaded the Netherlands.....I'll help eradicate them.

https://www.dutchnews.nl/news/2020/09/local-councils-call-for-help-in-eradicating-the-destructive-american-crayfish/ I have the solution.  Am still looking for them in the roadsides ditches, creeks and ponds around Heelweg.

Before and after hurricane Dorian, one year later.

A lot of this was shot on Eastern Shores, Marsh Harbour, Abaco, Bahamas, by a friend of Wendie's.  Read the description under the video. The surge was over 20 ft in this area and the winds were in excess of 200 kph for 3 days.  No buildings or trees were spared. It will be many years, if ever, before area recovers.

Crazy Dutch Bridges

Image
There are thousands of bridges in The Netherlands and many are engineering masterpieces or architectural creations. Many  fixed bridges have been in place for hundreds of years, other, opening bridges are more modern and works of art.

Another balloon incident, there were a couple of mishaps earlier in the month

Image
We have a balloon company, in Varsseveld, couple of Kms away. Occasionally one or two float by our place. Balloons are huge and the noise of the burner scares the cows, one bloke sued, claims the noise killed his Macaw parrots. Maybe they are flying them too close to town https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8772719/Tense-moment-residents-come-stop-hot-air-balloon-hitting-ground.html
