Another bullshit story

Image
https://interestingengineering.com/underwater-welding-one-of-the-most-dangerous-occupations-in-the-world Articles like this are very misleading. Wet welding underwater, is, at best a temporary repair. Hyperbaric welding is performed dry, in a pressurized chamber and is structurally as sound as any surface weld. There are probably less than one hundred certified and trained hyperbaric welders in the world today and the demand is not great. More emphasis should be placed in underwater burning, where more technical skills and engineering training are involved. But, diving schools keep churning out, 'underwater welders' that have little chance of ever becoming 'hyperbaric welders' without many years of experience TIT BITS SEE THIS LINK, BELOW, IT EXPLAINS, PRETTY WELL THE HISTORY OF HYPERBARIC WELDING https://waterwelders.com/biz-wave-hyperbaric-pipeline-welding-development/

Kasteel Slangenburg, a real hidden gem closeby

Image
This huge estate and castle is an easy 10 km rural bike ride through fields and woods. The inside of this castle is now a guest house and they have several guest rooms, authentic 17th century and you can stay a night or two and look for peace and meditation.  Not well known and not overrun by tourists and kids. The managing foundation wants to keep it that way.  It is a national monument, but almost everything old here,  is. Some of the castle dates back to the 13 hundreds.  Some of the existing Beech tress are more than 300 years old The forest is managed and trees are replaced regularly, every hundred years or so Carried hot tea and picnic lunch It was cold, low 40s F,  but sunny  My eyeballs get cold TIT BITS Link for more info https://www.gelderlander.nl/achterhoek/kasteel-de-slangenburg-moet-toegankelijker-worden~ae496feb/ Google will translate it if opened in Chrome browser. More 'Tit bits '... Marker Wadden

A silted-up lake has been transformed into the latest addition to the map of the Netherlands – and an eco-haven teeming with wildlife by  Daniel Boffey Main image: Aerial view of the main island in the Marker Wadden archipelago. For those sailing in from the port of Lelystad, the first sign of the Marker Wadden is a long finger of sand dunes designed to protect against flooding. “You see the cormorants, the black birds?” asks the environmentalist Roel Posthoorn, pointing skywards. Nine kilometres into the vast expanse of the Markermeer, the 700 sq km lake on Amsterdam’s easterly flank, lies a new Dutch archipelago. Five sprawling  artificial islands , constructed from sucked-up and refashioned fine silt, clay and shells, offer a haven for plants, birds a

The Dutch King's Birthday....

Image
The Kings birthday is a national holiday in The Netherlands. It is a big party, the national flag is flown from private houses, entertainment events set up in big towns and lots of beer is consumed.  The king mixes with the common folk and likes to drink beer with them, what a king. We put up our flag and went into Lichtenvoorde, a small nearby town and had fun. Town centre closed off, stage up, lots of beer tents, food trucks and many groups entertaining for a night and a day. The orange 'wimpel' flag is only flown on the king's birthday   Cold enough for a little fire in the woodstove, about 10-12°c and a bit damp outside Pretty chilly and a bit damp They set up ' Mini Pinkels' for the blokes and large toilet trailers for the sheilas, as lots of beer, in paper cups is consumed by all The crowds are well behaved, much dancing and singing and it will be all cleaned up by morning.
