Made a new table, last week...for inside and outside

Image
Made a new farmhouse table last week, only 1.5 metres long and six boards wide. Had some Douglas fir deck boards left over from decking around de Billabong and a couple of bed slats from a Thrift shop. Also found some 4 " welded square steel legs, with screw height adjusters at local big box store. No messing about with apron, or complicated joints, just doubled up the edge boards and added the bed slats to make breadboard end. The steel legs had a flange on top to screw directly into the underside. The sanding and sealing took more time.  We eat outside the barn in summer, it has a nice crank down shade awning. Summer time, pretty lush here...

Let's learn a little Dutch history with Noraly (Itchy Boots)

Image
Here is a link to another vlog from Noraly, she is charming and does a mutch better job than I.  Bike shots, drone shots, + interesting history. I am learning a lot about this country  It's a pity that she is not riding an 'airhead Bimmer' like 'The Baron' Her Royal Enfield Himalayan, single cylinder, 4 stroke , sounds a bit tinny. Here is the link, mates. https://youtu.be/Ish-fpaj81Y Titbits: I have been following 'Itchy Boots' (Noraly) on her solo worldwide adventures on a motorbike and find her v logs very interesting. Take a motorbike ride with Noraly/Itchyboots around 3 cities in The Netherlands

Image
It is the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Netherlands.   Here Noraly rides her Royal Enfield to 3 cities that were important to the liberation. She is an adventure traveller that was stuck in Peru due to the virus and was repatriated to NL, now she is having adventures in  her home country. I think that she does a bloody good job explaining the surrender of Holland and then the liberation by allied forces. It is amazing how grateful the Dutch are for the liberation and take great pride in maintaining the graves of the thousands that were killed in the conflict . See here adventure here https://youtu.be/a6jqx34xYac Titbits: If interested follow her worldwide adventures https://www.itchyboots.com/ Here is first episode of her historical tratravels in her home country https://youtu.be/Ish-fpaj81Y Or do a Google search. https://www.google.com/search?q=itchyboots&oq=itchyboots&aqs=chrome..69i57.5205j0j7&client=tablet-android-samsung&sourceid=c

The blokes next door are amateur astronomers

Image
A couple of blokes next door are amateur astronomers.  They search the skies and the heavens for objects that are light years away. Their technical equipment is sophisticated complicated, complex and expensive. Just the gear used fascinates and interests me. After they locate the target it remotely and accurately tracks and records the digital image over several hours. The red objects on the end of the scopes are digital cameras. Nothing is observed optically,  it's all through an app on their tablets. 'Pommie' John, is English, ex military Paratrooper (so we can swap lies) and has lived in The Netherlands for many years and has been into astronomy since he was 16, before he joined the British military.  The gear, consists of tripod, scopes, motors, GPS, counter balances and tracking equipment, is digital, wifi and connects to their iPhone and laptop computers. It also includes a cooler and a case of very cold good beer.  Tonight it was 'Becks', a G

Say G'day to some me Ozzie mates

https://zoonooz.sandiegozoo.org/zoonooz/say-gday-2/ I don't usually like zoos and to see wild animals in cages, but this mob seems to be doing a pretty good job of educating the public.

This is so sweet......

When we left Abaco, we could not take Stubby with us to the Netherlands. But after hurricane Dorian he was adopted  by a family with 3 little girls, who adore him. Here Naomi is singing him to sleep. I'll see if I can figure out how to post the short video. Sound is bad as fan is running, they are still on generator since the hurricane. Brings a tear to me eye.

This is very interesting.....to me, anyway

Saharan Dust blows across the Atlantic, through the Bahamas each year,  never gave it much thought, though it would coat everything at times. Here is report from Brian Kakuk, the underwater cave explorer and mixed gas diver on Abaco. Abaco has spectacular underwater cave system and Kakuk has been exploring and mapping them for many years. Cave diving never appealed to me after working in hazardous underwater oilfield locations around the world. (All photos are copyrighted by Kakuk.)
