Oh no ! They want to run a freight train line through Heelweg.

It seems like every few years this freight only line proposal comes up.  There are several alternatives, unfortunately one of them is very close to us. We hope not....Apparently they have been talking about it for 20 years or more.

Skating on thin ice......dem Cloggies smart

Image
The Ultimate for the Dutch is to be able to ice skate outdoors on a naturally frozen surface.  Usually this is a pond or a farm field that is flooded and allowed to freeze. With the Global warming, climate changes  and warm winters in Europe, not many outdoor rinks, or fields or ponds are freezing thick enough to skate on. So, some smart engineer type bloke poured insulated, light weight concrete on an asphalt inline skating track and then sprays light coats of water which freezes fast and allows skating with only one centimetre of ice.  There is no falling through thin ice into deeper water as the ice is only 1 cm thick.

December 01 negative 5 ° Celsius (23°F) Me Billabong is frozen over

Carbide shooting in Netherlands......Domestic fireworks are banned this year....new carbide rules

Image
Here is a beauty  ! And here's  the video link https://youtu.be/DDPPNAzUKRY Titbits The Netherlands is a very small country.  It would fit into Florida 5 times and the population is around 17 million, making it one of the most densly populated countries in the world. We live in the 'Achterhoek ', or rear corner of the Netherlands in an agricultural/rural area and these country blokes shoot off  'Carbide cannons'.  Milk cans are stuffed with carbide rocks and water, this produces acetylene gas which is explosive. Then they stuff a soccer ball or basketball in the end of the milk cans and set it off.  This produces a very loud explosion and shoots the ball hundreds of metres. The locals go crazy for fireworks at the end of the year, (almost as bad as the Chinese) Domestic fireworks are banned here, because of pollution, the noise and scaring the animals. Here is a vid of some bloopers https://youtu.be/rSfItZAUqTM
