Carbide shooting in Netherlands......Domestic fireworks are banned this year....new carbide rules
The Netherlands is a very small country. It would fit into Florida 5 times and the population is around 17 million, making it one of the most densly populated countries in the world.
We live in the 'Achterhoek ', or rear corner of the Netherlands in an agricultural/rural area and these country blokes shoot off 'Carbide cannons'. Milk cans are stuffed with carbide rocks and water, this produces acetylene gas which is explosive. Then they stuff a soccer ball or basketball in the end of the milk cans and set it off. This produces a very loud explosion and shoots the ball hundreds of metres.
The locals go crazy for fireworks at the end of the year, (almost as bad as the Chinese) Domestic fireworks are banned here, because of pollution, the noise and scaring the animals.
