'Alcheringa'....1959~2019 R.I.P. Our Island home destroyed by hurricane

ALCHERINGA, our beloved Abaco Island, Bahamas home, from 1979 till recently, destroyed by hurricane 'Dorian', 01 September 2019.  Fourty years of memories.
Wonderful times with many friends and families.

Below are a few pics..before and after.....sad
.

Downtown Marsh Harbour, by the port.

This is inside the harbour...
Conch Inn, Dive Abaco, Blue hole Restaurant, Mangoes, Snappers, all retail, all residential ....GONE......6-8 metres ocean surge, 2 days of winds + 165-225 mph + mini typhoons spun off and ripped through.
That white building top right is the top floor of the Blue Hole restuarant  that was washed over from the Conch Inn, by the swimming pool.
Dive Abaco is under there somewhere.

We experienced/survived many hurricanes on Abaco over the 30 + years, we were there.
But have never seen anything like this.
Many friends lost everything, house, business, cars, boats, personal effects.
Many were crushed as their houses collapsed on top of them or they were swept away in the surge that flooded their homes.
No businesses, no power, no water, no food supply, no fuel supply, no medical, no government agencies, no police, no fire dept...only emergency and relief  flights....airport damaged and no contact controls.
Looting, stealing, vandalism rampant...
Not much government recovery support, most relief work was performed by volunteers  and NGOS who responded from Florida and other countries

Jamaican, Dutch, British navy ships....no official assistance from US, who blocked refugees without passports or visas.
Now six weeks later there is some clean up and MHH airport open for domestic traffic.  All international pax, must enter via Nassau.

Total destruction, as I have never seen before
Reports on the ground say it is much worse than photos show.

To be continued...........
